Azurite is mineral which name derives from a Persian word which means 'blue'. It reflects its real color, because azurite usually has dark blue or azure color. Azurite appears in nature as a malachite but this type is quite rare. The mineral can be found in France, the USA, Greece, Australia or Mexico. In Poland, azurite occurs in Świętokrzyskie Mountains, Tatry and in Upper Silesia. Its intense blue color makes it really attractive for collectors, however, it is rarely used in jewelry. Apart from azurite, there are also minerals which are called azuremalachite which is a mixture of azurite and malachite. It is a valuable decorative material, also good for sculpting. It is also used for artistic jewelry.
