Baryte is a mineral which is quite common in the USA. For which purposes is it used?

Baryte is a mineral from the group of alkaline earth metals. It's name derives from the Greek word 'barys', which means heavy. It is the heaviest stone in this group and it is considered to be a light metal. Baryte is popular in the USA, England, France and Poland. In Poland it is very common. In Lower Silesia it had been observed around 150 times. It also occurs in Swietokrzyskie Mountains, Tatry Mountains, in Upper Silesia and around Tarnobrzeg. The mineral is soft and as a consequence it is rarely used in jewelry. The white type of baryte, similar to marble, is used for decorative purposes.
