Heliotrope is a rare mineral which is valued and appreciated by jewelers in the whole world.

Heliotrope is a type of chalcedony. Its name derives from Greek words 'helios' and 'tropein' which means 'to turn the sun'. This symbolism is an allusion to red reflexes created by this stone when exposed to the sun. The name carnelian which is also used to describe this particular gem is inappropriate because heliotrope has green color. Heliotrope is used in jewelry, it can be found in India, China, Pakistan, Australia or the USA. Large stones with beautiful light reflexion are valued in jewelry and have high prices. In the middle ages people believed that this stone has many properties, that is why it was used for production of objects of religious cult, so called stone of Saint Stephen.
