Nephrite is a beautiful mineral with healing properties.

Nephrite belongs to the group of metamorphic rocks. Its name derives from a Greek word which means "kidney stone". It isn't just an association but a symbolism because in the ancient times nephrite was believed to be the cure for kidney stones. Most often nephrites appear in dolomites and limestone. The largest deposits of stones are found in China, the USA, California and Australia. Nephrite is used in jewelry for ornamentation of bracelets, rings and necklaces. The green ones and those with cat's eye effect are mostly sought for. In addition to that, it is used for decorative purposes and sculptures. The first information about the use of nephrites in jewelry was mentioned in 17th century. Nephrite's popularity for sculptures has spread from Europe to China, and these are the Chinese works which are the most popular. In addition to that, nephrite is used in architecture, it is also possible to meet graves made of this mineral e.g. Samarkand.
