Little is known about Asian jewelry which actually deserves much attention. Nephrite, gold and silver, richly ornamented necklaces and rings - this is what we think about when thinking about Asian jewelry. What is it really about?

Techniques of producing Asian jewelry haven't changes for ages. It has always been rich in gold bands, earrings, necklaces and metal bracelets. Their history dates back to 1500 BC when middle ages of Indian tradition brought necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Modern jewelers change their products and they create enamel and soldered products. You can admire products of Indian producers in the Victoria and Albert Museum, it contains gold brooches in a shape of a moon. In the ancient Persia men used to wear rich jewelry (necklaces or earrings) made of gold. In Chinese jewelry, however, silver was more often used than gold. But it was goldened so as to avoid getting matte.
Nephrite was among the most highly valued minerals by people of that times. Apparently, it was jewelry which revealed the status of a person. Only rich women could afford wearing silver or gold accessories. Generally, rings were ornamented with Buddhist symbols. Silver and gold from Nepal and Thailand greatly reminded Chinese jewelry. Japanese jewelers have gone a long way to mastery, through polishing combs, buttons and purses made of ivory. That hard work guided them to this high status they possess today.
