The article tries to explain the history of the Hands of God, also known as Slavic Cross.

Hands of God is a symbol which has been used by Slavic civilization for ages. It is connected with powers of nature, shows the balance of the universe and ensures gods' sympathy/support. The historical sources present it as a cross in the shape of a Greek letter X, six or eight-pointed sign set in the circle. It is also presented is a pictogram which symbolizes Supreme God. Hands of God are presented as a cross with five fingers at the end of each arm, it symbolizes the balance of the universe. The arms are directed in the four directions of the world which expresses the supreme power of God. Present variations include Swarzyca Swarog with cross endings bent at right angles. The cross was dedicated to Svarog, the god of sun. This is supposed to symbolize the duality of the sun and fire. The comb-like arm endings can be equated with rain and clouds typical for violent natural phenomena. Some historians claim they can be interpreted as sun rays. Both interpretations are partially true. Hands of God can be seen in two aspects: as symbols of power and protection as well as sun and fire. Hands of God are worshiped by Slavs who live between the Baltic Sea and the Dnieper River.
