Purity of silver

Added: 2008-05-07 12:06:02

The purity of silver is the thing which tells us whether a given product is sterling silver or not.

Because of the softness of silver and gold jewelry manufacturers use alloys of noble metals. The term of title of silver has been used to define the amount of pure silver in a given silver product. The title says how much pure metal is placed in 1000 parts of a given element.

It is essential to get an appropriate certificate which proves that a product contains standard amount of the metal before the product is launched on the market. All products should comply to the Gold and Silver Stamping Act which states that all jewelry products should have a mark about the sterling silver which guarantees the standard amount of metal silver in a given silver product. If a piece of silver is marked sterling it means that it contains at least 925/1000 parts of pure silver.
