Real pearl necklace - is it real?
Pearl necklaces can evoke some fears in buyers. The fact that we can buy an expensive necklace made of synthetic pearls may discourage us from purchasing real pearl necklaces. We should not forget though that we are protected by the consumer rights which guard us from such dishonest sellers and protect our rights.
Sea pearls, cultured pearls
You should realize that if a pearl necklace is cheap it can't be made of real sea pearls. It does not necessarily mean that it is made of synthetic beads. Necklaces often contain cultured pearls which aren't man-made but they are bred in rivers with men's help.
Synthetic pearls
Synthetic pearls are artificial pearls which are often produced in China. Jablonex, an European company based in Czech Republic, produces pearls of that kind. Synthetic pearls are perfect for women who can't afford sea pearl necklaces.
How to assess their value?
A pearl's worth depends on its properties: color, luster, shape, surface type and transparency. For a necklace to be valuable to is essential that the pearls had almost the same shapes and sizes. The shape that is valued the most is a sphere, the most valuable color - pink. Other highly valued colors include: beige, black and dark brown.
Pearls weight is given in grams, 1 gram amounts to 0,05 gram = 0,25 carat.
