Occurence and Extraction of Silver

Added: 2008-12-15 14:56:07

The article provides some information about occurrence and extraction of silver. Read it to learn more.

Silver is found in nature together with sulphur and chloride as well as in ores (argentite, chlorargirite). The main sources of silver include copper, gold, lead and zinc ores. Silver is extracted in Canada, Mexico and the USA. Metal is obtained through electrolytic cleaning of copper or though Parsek's method. Pure silver contains at least 99.999 percent of this metal. The largest producer of silver is Mexico, in 2000 Mexico produced 2492 tons of silver. Poland is also a large producer of silver, thank to the ores of copper located in Lower Silesia. KGHM Polska Miedź is the third largest producer of silver in the whole world.
