Silver cross pendants are ideal accessories both for men and women. Although we consider then normal jewelry items it isn't totally true.

A cross has a long and fascinating history one should know. These days, people find crosses a natural and an ordinary thing that can be seen almost everywhere. Actually, throughout the years of its longlasting history crosses had an important role or the history of humanity and now they are recognized in the whole world. The shape of a cross has been known for many years. At first it used to be associated with number 4 which expresses four elements: sky, earth, sun, moon. In primitive tribes a cross symbolized the sun or four directions of the world, it used to have an astronomical meaning. German and Asian tribes used to have its own cross set in a circle, a symbol of the world and the sun, life and health. A custom of punishing slaves was connected with a cross, this was especially harsh punishment, known for causing plenty of pain and suffering. That is why first Christians couldn't accept Christ's death on a cross. Only after the Resurrection did people started to consider it a symbol of death. The cross went into the Christian symbolism after Constantine I accepted it as a symbol. The legends about the cross Jesus Christ died on claim that its wood was found on September, 14th - in modern world it is the Feast of the Cross which commemorates the crucifixion. From the September, 14th people began to worship cross and understood the idea of passion. From the 18th century the cross was placed on Missals and religious manuscripts. In renaissance, the cross was strictly connected with religion, however, they didn't accept the Crucifixion. Therefore, Jesus Christ was shown as a young and strong man who remained still on a cross, it was supposed to present the whole amount of sacrifice man could do in the name of God. Baroque, on the other hand, present Holy Mother and Jesus rather than a cross itself. It was the time when Lenten Lamentation were implemented in the Catholic liturgy. These days a movie by Mel Gibson entitled "Passion" brought many controversies because it shows scenes of passion in the way they were probably performed. The cross is still an object of worship symbolizing the Saviour but for some people it is an ordinary pendant.
